Christine Lenfant

Christine Lenfant, 60, adjusts the collar on one of her six greyhounds at the dog park in Mountlake Terrace, April 19. Lenfant is passionate about rescuing greyhounds and rescued her first in 2006. “In the U.S. greyhounds are seen as livestock,” said Lenfant. Two puppies are picked from every litter for racing and the rest of them are killed she said. Lenfant has rescued greyhounds in all types of situations, from a dog that won 50 races to a greyhound puppy, which is rare to find. Rescuing greyhounds can be expensive because they are sold for thousands of dollars if they are going to race.

What would you rather be doing right now?

“I’d like a cold beer, Coors Light,” Don Miller said. “Actually, Dos Equis, but you can’t get that on tap anywhere around here.” When I asked Don for some contact information, he asked if I was going to send him government propaganda. His phone number area code is Canadian; however everything he says and wears is stereotypically American.

Sonia and Melvin Heisler sit in the food court eating waffle cones filled with vanilla ice cream topped with strawberries. I approached them and asked what they would rather be doing. Melvin chuckled and said, “there’s nothing I’d rather do than finish off this here ice cream cone.” Sonia chimed in with a similar response, “there’s nothing I’d rather be doing. He’s 81 today.”

Jasmine Goldtooth would rather be tattooing than working at Orange Julius in Bellis-Fair mall. She isn’t a professional tattoo artist but said, “It’s something I want to get into.” While she made an Orange Julius for a customer, she told me that she’s already given herself a few tattoos.
